Faes works at the interface of science and art where he uses color, natural patterns and geometric structures.
A versatile artist who expresses himself in different disciplines
His first one-man show in 2008, at the Verbeke Foundation in Stekene Influenced his place in abstract art.
There he developed, in collaboration with Prof. Jacobs (affiliated with the University of Ghent), a concept with an emphasis on the activity of bees.
He created a laboratory; an artificial space with the aim of placing sculptures that were further expanded by honey bees.
This basis continued to manifest in his unique style.
Faes is primarily concerned with the form: natural patterns and geometric structures that complement and complete each other, the honeycomb as a perfect hexagon is a beautiful example.
His innovations in color and optical illusion with linear designs led him to paint abstract hexagonal patterns, as in his colorful series of tempera on panels and building elements. The carefully painted moiré pattern breaks through the rigidity of the geometric figures in a masterly way.
For his sculptures, Faes uses divergent materials, mainly combined with recuperated wood. Additionally, he incorporates his geometric designs or merges them onto a shaped canvas, combining his painting and sculpture.
Recently he combines his oil paintings with spatial elements.
A launch pad for future achievements.
